Discover how pollinator bees cool down during summer, why they sometimes look like hipsters in front of the hive, and how Oprashi honey helps preserve biodiversity.
Bees and Summer – A Spa Treatment in the Hive
Summer is the season when people look for shade under pine trees and refreshment at the beach, while Oprashi bees enjoy their very own wellness treatment inside the hive. While we sip cocktails, they beat their wings to ventilate their home and protect the quality of our precious, natural, Croatian honey.
How Bees Create Natural Air Conditioning
When the hive temperature rises above 35 °C, worker bees bring in water and spread it across the honeycomb. As it evaporates, the interior cools down – just like a natural air conditioner. This clever process ensures that our pesticide-free honey stays fresh and pure.
The Hipster Beard of Bees
One curious sight in August is bees clustering outside the hive in what’s called the “beard” formation. It looks like the hive has grown a beard, but in fact it’s a smart way to reduce overcrowding and lower the temperature. If you see them hanging out on the “veranda” – that’s their version of a summer after-beach party.
Oprashi Bees as Guardians of Biodiversity
Through our Adopt-a-hive program, Oprashi reminds everyone that bees are not just honey producers – they’re essential guardians of biodiversity. That’s why every spoonful of honey carries with it a story of sustainability and the future of our planet.
